McKINLEYVILLE, Calif. -
The Western Oregon softball team received strong pitching to win game one 4-1 but fell in game two 6-1, as it dropped three of four games in the series to Humboldt State.

The Wolves' (6-7, 4-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) win in game one snapped the Lumberjacks' (9-9, 2-6 California Collegiate Athletic Association) five-game winning streak.

Game 1
Kelsey White (2-0) went the distance giving up one run on four hits to lead Western Oregon to a 4-1 win in game one. She did not allow an HSU runner past first base after the first inning.

Tierra-Lyn Cuba was 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. She drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth with a run-scoring single to plate Bailey Rueck from third. Rueck also collected two hits for the Wolves and Amanda Fleer added a pinch hit home run.

Western Oregon trailed 1-0 after the first inning but answered back in the second on an RBI-double by Ellen Bogardus to score Cuba from second base.

Humboldt State scored its only run on a homer by Nikki Ketteringham to leadoff the bottom of the first.

Tyler Sutherland extended her hitting streak to 12-games with a single in the fifth inning, but it would be her only hit of the day.

Game 2
Humboldt State hit three home runs and Vaneza Hoover delivered her second one-run performance of the series, as the 'Jacks won game two 6-1.

Kirsten Nouzovsky, Lindsay Warren and Gia Hampton each hit a solo home run in the first three innings of the game as Humboldt State jumped out to 5-1 lead after three.

Meanwhile, Hoover (5-5) pitched seven innings allowing six hits and one run while striking out four to post Humboldt State's third one-run pitching performance of the series.

Bailey Rueck was the only Wolf to record a multi-hit game, as she went 2-for-3 with a double.

Western Oregon grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI-single by Stephanie Albrecht, however, Humboldt State scored six unanswered runs to earn the win.
