PORTLAND, Ore. – For the first time in her career, senior Rachael Huffman has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Huffman won the discus at the Pacific Preview by 14 feet. Her mark of 144 feet, 5 inches, leads the GNAC in and is No. 7 on the GNAC All-Time List in the event.
 
The personal best effort moves her up to third in the Western Oregon record book and is the best mark from a thrower in the event since 2006.
 
Huffman and Western Oregon will travel to Portland for the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open at Griswold Stadium on March 17. Select field events begin on Friday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at Clackamas Community College while the rest of the events begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at L&C College.
