BRADENTON, Fla. – On the second day of the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, Western Oregon sophomore
Olivia Woods became the third runner to grab a spot in final while improving on her own school record after competing in the women's 800m preliminaries on Friday (May 26).

Woods ran the third heat of the 800m prelim in a time of 2:07.82, placing her first in the heat and fourth overall. She bested her previous school record of 2:08.46 at the 2017 San Francisco State Distance Carnival in early April. Woods will compete in the 800m final on Saturday (May 27) at 6:55 p.m. Eastern (3:55 p.m. Pacific).

In the opening heat of the 800m, junior
Megan Rose took fourth with a time of 2:09.94 to finish 13
th overall. Running in the same heat as Woods, junior
Suzanne Van De Grift ran a time of 2:10.64, taking 16
th place.

In the field, senior
Wesley Gray brought his career to a close placing 17
th in the triple jump finals with his best effort coming in the second round at 14.93m (48-11 ¾).

Four Western Oregon field and running athletes will compete on Saturday, the final day of competition at the National Championships. Sophomore
Sheila Limas De La Cruz will lead off the day for the Wolves in the javelin finals at 11:30 a.m. Eastern (8:30 a.m. Pacific). The duo of
David Ribich and
Dustin Nading run in the 1500m final at 5:45 p.m. ET (2:45 p.m. PT) while Woods closes out competition for WOU in Florida.
