PORTLAND, Ore. – Logan Carlos earned First Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors, while Maddie Mayer, Natalie Willoughby and Zoie Recolan were named to the Second Team as the conference teams were released on Wednesday.
Carlos was a unanimous selection on the First Team, while Mayer and Recolan are on the all-conference teams for a second time. Mayer earned Honorable Mention in 2019, while Recolan was a Second Team honoree last season. Willoughby collects all-conference honors for the first time.
Carlos put together a big season, as the senior shortstop that also played second base down the stretch, hit .380 with 65 hits, 37 runs scored, nine doubles, six triples, 10 home runs, 37 RBI, 23 walks and two steals while starting all 50 games. She led the Wolves in batting average, hits, runs, triples, walks and was second on the team in home runs and RBI. Carlos had 19 multi-hit games, going for a season-high four against Central Washington this past weekend when she also hit for the cycle. It was just the fifth cycle in the GNAC since 2014 and Carlos accomplished the feat in her first four at-bats. Carlos posted 10 multi-RBI games, reaching a season-high four against Montana State Billings. She finished the regular season ranking sixth in the GNAC in batting average, first in hits, third in runs scored, tied for fourth in home runs, sixth in RBI, first in total bases (116), tied for sixth in walks, fifth in on-base percentage (.465), and led the GNAC in slugging percentage (.678).
Mayer was big down the stretch for the Wolves, picking up two wins against Western Washington and added another win against Central Washington to help WOU go down to the final day of the season with a chance to make the conference tournament. For the season, the left-hander posted a 3.11 ERA in 24 appearances that included 17 starts, tallying nine wins, a save, 11 complete games, two shutouts and 83 strikeouts in 117 innings. She led the team in ERA, innings pitched and complete games, while tying for the team lead in wins and saves. Twelve times on the season Mayer pitched at least six innings, going at least seven innings in eight games and had a season-high 11 innings against Western Washington. Mayer had seven appearances allowing no earned runs and had 16 games allowing two earned runs or less. She posted multiple strikeouts in 20 games, with a high of seven also against the Vikings. Mayer ranked high in the GNAC in multiple categories including fifth in ERA, tied for sixth in wins, fourth in innings pitched, eighth in strikeouts, tied for fifth in appearances, tied for first in saves, tied for seventh in games started, tied for fourth in shutouts, tied for fourth in complete games and was 10th in opponent batting average (.264).
Willoughby put together a big season behind the plate coming away with a .355 average, collecting 50 hits, 35 runs, 12 doubles, 11 home runs ,39 RBI, and 18 walks. She led the team in home runs and RBI, while tying for the team lead in doubles. Willoughby finished second on the team in hits and runs scored while playing in 46 games that included 45 starts. Fourteen times this season she had multiple hits, reaching a high of three against Montana State Billings. Willoughby had nine multi-RBI games, reaching a high of five twice against the Yellowjackets and Bushnell. She also added multi-home run games against both teams. Willoughby ranked 10th in the GNAC in batting average, tied for sixth in runs scored, tied for first in home runs, tied for fourth in RBI, third in total bases (95), ninth in on-base percentage (.438), and second in slugging percentage (.674).
Recolan was right behind both Carlos and Willoughby in batting posting a .343 average, along with 48 hits, 22 runs, 12 doubles, a triple, a home run, 20 RBI, 21 walks and three stolen bases while playing in 47 games that included 46 starts at first base. She tied for the team lead in doubles and was third on the team in walks, hits and batting average. Twelve times on the season Recolan had multiple hits, reaching a high of four against Montana State Billings. She drove in multiple runs against the Yellowjackets and Hawaii Hilo, with a high of three against the Vulcans. Recolan scored a trio of runs versus Montana State Billings and Central Washington. Recolan finished the season strong with hits in seven of her final eight games and ended the year on a five-game hitting streak.
WOU finished the 2022 season going 24-26 and 9-15 in GNAC play, going to the final day of the regular season still playing for a chance to qualify for the conference tournament.
