Matson Hardie, a freshman from Bend, Ore. (Summit High School), scored 23.5 points to lead the Western Oregon men to their third straight conference team title and their fourth in the seven-year history of the meet. Hardie’s point total is the most ever for a freshman and the fourth highest total in meet history. Hardie, who finished second in the triple jump (47-4.25) and tied for third in the high jump (6-2.75), won the long jump with a meet and conference record leap of 23-8. That distance also earned him an NCAA provisional standard. His triple jump mark ranks fourth on the GNAC all-time indoor list. Only Seattle Pacific’s Chris Randolph, who scored 35 points in 2005, and 28 in 2006, and WOU’s Zeb Udell, who scored 24 in 2008, have scored more in a indoor championship.
