Wolves Shield WOU

2024-25
WESTERN OREGON SPORTS MEDICINE
PRE-PARTICIPATION EXAM

All student-athletes including prospective student-athletes must receive medical clearance annually before every competitive sports season from the Western Oregon University Sports Medicine Staff prior to participation in any "NCAA Reportable Accountable Athletic Activity", "Try-Out Activity" or out-of- season voluntary (summer conditioning) workouts supervised by WOU athletics personnel.

The medical clearance (pre-participation evaluation) will be conducted under the supervision of the Western Oregon University Athletic Medical Director.  The Athletic Medical Director and the Head Athletic Trainer are charged with the responsibility to ensure that the pre-participation evaluation cardiac screening is conducted with the necessary components.

Western Oregon University Athletics will identify each year an institutional declared date that a pre-participation evaluation (PPE) will be provided for each sport. This date will be established each year in collaboration with each sport coach. There is no financial cost to the student-athlete if they are present on the institutional declared date of the PPE.
