Sara Zahler, a 5-9 senior guard from Newberg, Ore. (Newberg High School), scored 40 points leading the Wolves to conference wins over Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington. Zahler converted on 13-of-26 shots, including 7-of-12 three-pointers. She also had nine rebounds. Both wins were four point games for the Wolves and Zahler came up with huge shots in both of them. Against NNU, she hit a three-pointer with 33 seconds left to cut the Crusaders' lead to two before Jamie Richardson's layup sent the game to overtime. Against Central Washington, Zahler scored five of the Wolves final seven points with a layup and a trio of free throws as the Wolves slipped past the Wildcats 71-67. WOU’s 2-0 start is the first time since 2001-02 it has won its first two conference games.
