Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University men's basketball team fell 89-74 to Linfield Saturday, Nov. 29.
The loss evened the Wolves record at 2-2 as the Wildcats earned their first victory of the season (1-2).
Western Oregon did not lead in this game as it fell behind out of the gate. The Wolves converted on 50.9 percent of its shots in the game but were hurt by an 18-to-9 turnover disadvantage as Linfield was able to put up eight extra shots in the contest. WOU also had trouble at the free throw line as it made only 12 of 23 from the charity stripe.
After falling behind early, WOU went on a 12-2 run to close Linfield's lead to one with 1:07 remaining in the half. Linfield would hit two more shots before the half, including a three-pointer with two seconds left to go into the locker room up 42-37. Western Oregon would get the first basket of the second half to narrow the lead to three but that is as close as the Wolves would get.
Stanley Ratcliff led the Wolves with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting and nine rebounds. Matt Schmidt came off the bench to score 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and Kyle Long also notched double-figures with 10.
The Western Oregon men's basketball team will be in action again Saturday, Dec. 13, against Evergreen State at 7:00 p.m.
