NAMPA, Idaho - The Western Oregon University women's basketball team fell 97-66 to Humboldt State in the first round of the Hampton Inn & Suites Thanksgiving Classic Friday, Nov. 28,

The loss dropped the Wolves to 2-3 on the season as Humboldt State improved to 4-1. 

Danielle Bellando came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points for WOU to go along with five rebounds. Alissa Brasel grabbed seven boards to lead Western Oregon in the rebound category. Katie Torland posted 10 points for her fifth consecutive game double-figure scoring game.

The Wolves fell behind at the beginning as the Lumberjacks opened the game on a 10-0 run. Western Oregon would bring the game back to 12-6 but Humboldt State then went on a 22-8 run and eventually took a 47-30 lead into halftime.

"We didn't come out with the fire it takes to beat a good team like Humboldt State," said head coach Greg Bruce. "We had a week to prepare for this team after seeing them last week at our place but defensively we were not able to stop them." 

Brittney Taylor scored 22 points and had eight rebounds to lead HSU in both departments.

The Western Oregon women's basketball team will now prepare to face Regis in the second round of the tournament Saturday, Nov. 29, at 11:00 a.m.

"Regis is good team, they are scrappy and will battle you," continued Bruce, "We will have our work cut out for us tomorrow."
