NAMPA, Idaho - The Western Oregon University men's basketball team dropped its final road game of the season 93-83 to Northwest Nazarene, Saturday, Feb. 27th.
The Crusaders (14-11, 6-8 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) broke a 36-36 halftime tie with an 11-3 run to start the second half, and pushed their lead to 18 points in the second stanza, before finishing the game with the 10-point margin of victory.
Blair Wheadon led four Western Oregon (11-15, 4-11 GNAC) student-athletes in double-figures with 22 points. He hit 6-of-11 shots from the field, 4-of-6 from three-point range and also added six free throws.
Rico Myles notched 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Matt Schmidt (16) and
Kyle Long (14) also got into double-figures in the scoring column, while
Tarance Glynn led the team with six assists.
Louis Beech matched Wheadon with 22 points to lead NNU, as he hit 6-of-9 shots from long-range and 8-of-12 overall. Anthony Golden scored 17 off the bench, while Brian Barkdoll and Drew Eisinger added 15 and 11, respectively.
Both teams shot well from the field but the Crusaders outscored the Wolves by 15 points from behind the arc and outrebounded WOU 40-26 to claim the victory.
The Wolves' final game of the 2009-10 season will be Thursday, Mar. 4th, in Monmouth as Western Oregon takes on Saint Martin's. WOU will be saying good-bye to seniors
