LACEY, Wash. - Blake Poole scored 26 points and grabbed a Great Northwest Athletic Conference record 24 rebounds to propel Saint Martin's past Western Oregon 85-54 on Tuesday (Jan. 11).
Blair Wheadon had 13 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Wolves. With the loss, WOU (9-8, 4-3 GNAC) drops into a tie for fourth place in the GNAC with Saint Martin's (11-6, 4-3 GNAC).
The Saints started the game by scoring the first six points and 15 of the first 20, and never trailed in the game. They were able to build a 19-point halftime lead (41-22), thanks to a 28-16 rebounding edge, which included 13 on the offensive glass.
In the second half, WOU cut the lead to 13 points on Glynn's free throw but SMU answered by scoring seven of the next eight points to extend its lead back to 20.
For the game the Saints shot 50 percent from the field and held the Wolves to a 32.1 percent clip. SMU was also able to win the turnover battle 19-10.
Tarance Glynn led the Wolves with seven rebounds. This is the 13th time in 17 games that Glynn has paced WOU in the rebound department. WOU also got nine points from Long, eight from
Kolton Nelson and five from
DeAngelo Davis.
Western Oregon will be off this weekend before continuing its season Jan. 20 at Alaska Anchorage.
