ANCHORAGE, Alaska -
Blair Wheadon recorded his 11th straight game with double-figure points as he poured in 16 points in Western Oregon's 79-59 loss at Alaska Anchorage on Thursday (Jan. 20).
This was the third straight home win for Alaska Anchorage who improved to 14-4 on the season and remained tied with Central Washington for first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 6-1 record. The loss was the second straight for WOU which evened its season record at 9-9, and its conference record at 4-4.
Wheadon hit 5-of-12 shots from the field, including 3-of-7 from behind the arc to lead the Wolves in scoring for the 11th game this season. He also added two steals and three assists.
Tarance Glynn pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds, however, the Wolves still lost the battle of the boards 40-28.
Jamaal Veal came off the bench to register 11 points as Western Oregon's reserves outscored UAA's by seven (23-16).
Alaska Anchorage held a two-point lead at the half (28-26) after both teams put forth a strong defensive effort. In the second 20 minutes Alaska Anchorage's shooters caught fire. They made 63 percent of their shots in the second half (17-of-27) and held the Wolves to a 32.1 percent clip to secure the home victory.
Casey Mitchell led the Seawolves with 22 points and nine rebounds. UAA also received 14 points from Taylor Rohde and 11 from Brandon Walker. Steve White, Drew Robinson and Walker all dished out five assists as Anchorage had an assist on 24 of its 28 baskets.
The Wolves' road trip to Alaska will conclude on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. (PST) in Fairbanks against the Nanooks.
