MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves host the GNAC/CCAA Challenge beginning on Friday, Nov. 18, at 11:00 a.m. WOU opens action on Friday at 3:00 p.m. against Cal State Los Angeles before facing No. 19 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1:00 p.m.

Western Oregon enters the week with a mark of 0-1 on the season after falling to Oregon State in the season opener last week. Rylee Peterson led the way for the Wolves with 11 points in the loss as Dana Goularte came off the bench to score six points while grabbing five rebounds.

The tournament marks the first time Western Oregon will see NCAA Division II competition this season as the Wolves defeated NCAA D3 member Linfield, 73-37, in an exhibition contest at home after falling to Boise State and BYU in exhibition contests on the road.

Cal State Los Angeles opens its season at the tournament as the squad was picked to finish in a tie for sixth in the California Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Golden Eagles are led by forward Lacy Ramon, who returns after leading the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game last season.

Nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona enters the tournament as the defending West Region champions as the Broncos are picked second in the pre-season CCAA poll. The Broncos finished last year with a mark of 28-5 overall and captured the CCAA title with a 19-3 record. The squad is led by center Megan Ford, who averaged 13.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game a year ago.

The Wolves hold a 3-1 series advantage over Cal Poly Pomona while Cal State Los Angeles holds a 5-1 edge all-time against WOU. Western Oregon fell to both squads last year at the challenge, held in Los Angeles.

Northwest Nazarene is also participating in the four-team challenge as the Crusaders face Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at 1:00 p.m. before closing out the tournament against the Golden Eagles on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Tickets to each tournament session is $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and can be purchased online here or by calling 503-838-8449.
