ST. GEORGE, Utah –
Melissa Fowler led four Wolves in double figures with 17 points, but it was not enough to lift Western Oregon over Dixie State in the opening round of the Thanksgiving Tournament as it fell 83-76 on Friday, Nov. 25.
Fowler hit 5-of-6 shots from the field and 7-of-11 from the line to mass her season-high in points.
Jade Haas and
Dana Goularte each added a season-best 13 points for the Wolves (0-5).
Lorrie Clifford notched 10 points.
LaBrea Walker came off the bench to pace the Red Storm (4-1) with 17 points.
The game was back-and-forth in the first half before DSC widened its lead to double figures in the second half.
Western Oregon outscored DSC 19-7 on second chance points to stay in the game, and also shot 51 percent from the field.
“I was encouraged by our effort and our teamwork today,” said coach Greg Bruce. “We were fought and competed and that is all you can ask for. We just need to get that break through into the win column.”
The Wolves hit 22 free throws in the contest and Dixie State sunk 24 from the charity stripe in a game that featured 47 fouls.
The Wolves will now take on Academy of Art on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
