Men's Hoops travels to play in Capital City Classic

Wolves will face Carroll on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon men's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves open play at the Capital City Classic in Salem, Ore., on Friday, Nov. 23, at 5:00 p.m. against Carroll. The classic will be hosted by Corban as the Wolves have won the event the previous two seasons.

WOU enters the weekend with a record of 2-2 and winners of two straight after the Wolves defeated Notre Dame de Namur and Emporia State last week. Andy Avgi leads the WOU attack as the forward is averaging 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Rodney Webster (13.3 points per game) and James Gehring (10.5 points per game) are also averaging double figures for the Wolves as WOU is averaging 73.5 points per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.

Defensively, WOU is holding opponents to 71.0 points per contest as teams are shooting 41.1 percent from the field and only 22.9 percent from behind the arc against the Wolves.

Carroll enters the week with a mark of 0-5 on the season after falling to Eastern Oregon and Embry Riddle last week. Nick Jones leads the way for the Saints, averaging 13.8 points per game.

The winner of the contest will move on to the championship game against Willamette or Corban on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m.  Should the Wolves lose, they will play in the third-place contest at 2:30 p.m.
