Women's Hoops faces Willamette in Capital City opener

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves open play at the Capital City Classic in Salem, Ore., on Friday, Nov. 23, at 12:00 p.m. against Willamette. The classic will be hosted by Corban as the Wolves will be joined by the Warriors and New Hope Christian.

WOU enters the weekend with a record of 2-2 and after the Wolves defeated Notre Pacific Lutheran last week. Mariah Durian leads the WOU attack as the forward is averaging 16.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Lorrie Clifford (13.8 points per game) and Dana Goularte (11.8 points per game) are also averaging double figures for the Wolves as WOU is averaging 67.0 points per game while shooting 38.4 percent from the field.

Defensively, WOU is holding opponents to 64.2 points per contest as teams are shooting 38.9 percent from the field and only 23.1 percent from behind the arc against the Wolves.

Willamette enters the week with a mark of 0-3 on the season after falling to Corban and UC Santa Cruz last week. Mackenzie Lamson leads the way for the Bearcats, averaging 11.7 points per game.

The winner of the contest will move on to the championship game against New Hope Christian or Corban on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 5:00 p.m.  Should the Wolves lose, they will play in the third-place contest at 12:00 p.m.
