Women's Hoops shuts down Cal State Maritime, 66-54

Lorrie Clifford is perfect from behind-the-arc as the Wolves push past Keelhaulers.

VALLEJO, Calif. – Lorrie Clifford led the way with 17 points as the Western Oregon women's basketball team held Cal State Maritime to just 33.9 percent from the field (20-of-59) as the Wolves claimed a 66-54 victory over the Keelhaulers on Wednesday night. With the victory, WOU improved to 5-4 on the season while CSUM fell to 1-13 with the loss.

Leading 31-28 at the break, Clifford helped stretch out the Wolves lead during the second half as the senior finished the night perfect from behind the arc, going 4-of-4. The effort led a stellar shooting night from behind the line for the Wolves as WOU finished the evening 10-of-18 from behind the stripe.

Freshman Mariah Durian added 15 points in the victory while Andi Maleike came off the bench to score 11 for the Wolves as WOU shot 22-of-58 from the floor.

With WOU hitting a number of shots from behind the arc, the Keelhaulers were unable to counter as the Wolves managed to hold an opponent below 34 percent from the field for the fourth time this season. Shante Sands led CSUM as the forward posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

WOU held a 38-33 edge on the glass as Dana Goularte led the Wolves with 10 boards. Amber Reade added nine points and four steals as the Wolves forced the Keelhaulers into 22 turnovers.

The victory snapped a short, two-game skid for the Wolves as WOU will look to make it back-to-back victories on the short road-swing when it faces Academy of Art on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 12:00 p.m.
