Women's hoops hosts Alaska schools this week

Wolves take on UAA on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. followed by a meeting against the Nanooks on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves host Alaska Anchorage on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7:00 p.m. before a meeting with Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7:00 p.m.

Western Oregon enters the home games with a mark of 6-10 on the season, 1-6 in league play, after the Wolves dropped a close contest to Saint Martin's last week. Freshman forward Mariah Durian continues to lead the WOU attack, averaging 13.2 points per game. Lorrie Clifford (12.4 ppg) and Dana Goularte (10.2 ppg) are also in double figures for WOU as the Wolves are averaging 62.1 points per game.

Defensively, the Wolves are holding opponents to just 39.4 percent from the field as Goularte leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game, 23 blocks and 39 steals. Opponents are shooting just 30.2 percent from behind the three-point line and averaging 67.0 points per game against the Wolves defense.

Alaska Anchorage enters the game against the Wolves with a record of 8-7 overall, 2-5 in league play after losses to Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington last week. The Seawolves, averaging 70.5 points per game, are led by guard Sasha King, who averages 15.7 points per contest.

Meanwhile, Alaska Fairbanks enters this week's action with a mark of 2-13 overall and 0-7 in GNAC play after losses to the Wildcats and Crusaders last week. April Fultz is one of two Nanook players in double figures as the forward leads the team with 12.0 points per game.

Last season, WOU split a pair of games against the Nanooks while dropping both contests to UAA.

Following the conclusion of this week's action, WOU will return to the court on Thursday, Jan. 31, when the Wolves travel to Billings, Mont., to face Montana State Billings at 6:00 p.m.
