Melissa Fowler led the Western Oregon women's basketball team with 14 points; however, it would not be enough as the Wolves fell to Alaska Anchorage, 63-54, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Thursday night. With the loss, WOU falls to 6-12 on the season, 1-7 in league play, while Alaska Anchorage improves to 9-7 overall, 3-5 in conference action.
Although the Wolves held the Seawolves to just 42.9 percent from the floor, WOU was unable to overcome 40 points in the paint by UAA as the Wolves took 12 fewer shots during the contest.
Alysa Horn led four UAA players with 17 points while Alli Madison added 15 points for the Seawolves in the victory. Madison finished with a double-double, collecting 10 rebounds, as UAA used 14 offensive rebounds to hold the decisive shot advantage.
Fowler went 5-of-11 from the floor to lead the Wolves as

Mariah Durian and
Chantel Divilbiss each finished with eight points. WOU finished the game 20-of-51 from the field as the Wolves shot just 5-of-21 from behind the three-point line.
After both teams traded baskets throughout much of the first half, Alaska Anchorage managed to build a 31-26 lead at the break. The Seawolves would extend the lead to as much as 14 in the second half as WOU could get no closer than seven points during the final 15 minutes.
WOU will look to rebound from the loss when the Wolves host Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7:00 p.m.
