Women's Basketball hits the road to face MSUB and SPU

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves travel on the road and are hosted by Montana State Billings on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6:00 p.m. before a meeting with Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:00 p.m. in Seattle, Wash.

Western Oregon enters the road trip with an overall record of 7-12 and a conference record of 2-7. Last week, the Wolves were defeated 63-54 by Alaska Anchorage before snapping their four game losing streak with a 67-61 victory over Alaska Fairbanks.

Freshman guard/forward Mariah Durian remains the Wolves leading scorer, averaging 12.8 points per game. Senior guard Lorrie Clifford is the only other WOU player averaging double figures (12.4 ppg). Junior forward Melissa Fowler leads the team in assists with 2.9 per game. As a team, the Wolves average 61.9 points per game.

Sophomore forward Dana Goularte continues to lead the Wolves defense, leading the team in rebounds (6.7 per game), steals (39), and blocked shots (23). As a team, the WOU gives up an average of 66.5 ppg.

Montana State Billings enters the game with a record of 12-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play after a 66-56 victory at home over Seattle Pacific. Junior guard Bobbi Knudsen leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 18.4 ppg. As a team, the Yellow Jackets average 70.6 ppg.

Meanwhile, SPU enters this week's conference action with a 10-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play. They begin the week by hosting St. Martin's at home. Junior forward Katie Benson leads the Falcons in scoring with 14.8 ppg. Other players averaging double figures are sophomore guard Suzanna Ohlsen (13.6 ppg), junior guards Aubree Callen (12.1 ppg) and Betsy Kingma (10 ppg). As a team, the Falcons average 71.1 ppg.

Last season, the Wolves lost both contests to the Yellowjackets and split their contests with the Falcons, with each team winning at home.

Following this week, the Wolves return home to host Central Washington on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 5:15 p.m.
