Men's Hoops sees D2 win streak snapped at SMU

Wolves fall for the first time in league play, falling to Saint Martin's, 71-59.

LACEY, Wash.  – The Western Oregon men's basketball team fell behind early against Saint Martin's and were unable to recover as the Wolves fell to the Saints, 71-59, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night. With the loss, WOU falls to 7-4 on the season, 2-1 in league play, while SMU improves to 5-6 overall, 1-2 in conference action.

Devon Alexander led the Wolves iwith 19 points as WOU was held to just 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field. Jordan Schriber came off the bench to score nine points while Andy Avgi added eight for WOU as the Wolves dropped a contest against a NCAA Division II opponent for the first time in eight games.

Roger O'Neill led four Saint Martin's players in double figures with 24 points as the Saints ahot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) for the contest.

The Saints managed to build a big first half lead, outscoring WOU 20-9 over the first 11 minutes of the contest en route to a 39-23 halftime lead.

The Wolves would draw no closer than 11 points after the break as WOU would go on to fall for the first time in league play.

The Wolves will look to rebound from the loss when WOU returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 10, at Alaska Anchorage at 8:00 p.m.
