MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University women's basketball team claimed its second straight Capital City Classic crown with a 64-46 victory over the California Maritime Academy Saturday.

The Wolves' (2-3) championship game win was their second victory in a row after the 0-3 start. WOU's defense held Cal Maritime to just 19 percent shooting from the field. The Keelhaulers made 10 of their 52 shots from the field in the game. Western Oregon made 41 percent of its shots. The Wolves held their second straight opponent to no scorers in double digits.

Chantel Divilbiss was named the tournament's most valuable player after a 14-point performance Saturday. The junior was 4-of-7 from the field in the game. She finished the tournament with five made-three pointers and 27 points. Last year's tournament MVP, Dana Goularte, was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 14 against Cal-Maritime. She had 14 points versus Willamette Friday.

Western Oregon's Melissa Fowler had a game-high 10 rebounds. Elise Miller tossed three assists and made three steals.

"I thought we did a great job again on the defensive end against a very athletic team," WOU Head Coach Holli Howard-Carpenter said. "Our defensive intensity the past two games has really sparked our offense. Our keys coming into the game were to defend and rebound and I thought Mel (Fowler) and Dana (Goularte) led the charge."

The Wolves had a slim 42-41 edge in rebounds, and forced CMA into 20 turnovers. Western Oregon committed 17 turnovers. Both teams were 4-of-14 from behind-the-arc. The Keelhaulers made 22-of-31 from the free throw line and WOU connected on 14-for-18.The Wolves turned their turnover advantage into a 22-8 lead in points off of turnovers. Western Oregon also had a 28-8 edge in the paint.

The first basket of the game gave California Maritime its lone lead of the game at 2-0. The Wolves scored 17 of the next 20 points. WOU had its largest lead of the first half, 26-9, with 4:49 remaining. The Keelhaulers closed on a 12-2 run, and Western Oregon had a 28-21 halftime advantage. CMA was held to 5-of-25 from the field in the opening half.

The Wolves built their lead back to 18 points four minutes into the second half. WOU held onto a double-digit lead for the rest of the game. Western Oregon's largest lead in the game was 18 points on three four different occasions, including the final margin. After shooting 20 percent from the field in the first half, Cal Maritime was limited to 18 percent in the second half. The Keelhaulers made 5-of-27 from the field in the second stanza.

Toni Anaya led Cal Maritime (4-6) with nine points. She made one of her three shots from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Anaya added six rebounds, while Javier Brantley had a team-high eight rebounds. Shante Sands threw three assists. Three Keelhaulers had two steals.

Sands, and Corban's Tara Vanweerdhuizen and Julia Young rounded out the 2013 All-Tournament team. Vanweerdhuizen led the tournament with 23 rebounds. She was named All-Tournament team last year as well. Corban pulled away from Willamette, 52-42, in the third place game. The Warriors held their cross-town rival to just 12 points in the second half.

Western Oregon plays its sixth and seventh games of a seven-game home-stand to begin the season Thursday and Saturday. The Wolves open the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule by welcoming Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington.
