MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University men's basketball team picked up its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory of the season at Simon Fraser University, 87-83, Saturday.

The Wolves (5-4, 1-1 GNAC) held off SFU to remain unbeaten versus the Clan in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play all-time. WOU has won all seven GNAC meetings between the programs. It is also 5-0 under Brady Bergeson against the Clan.

Western Oregon had two 20-point scorers Saturday. Rodney Webster matched his career high of 22 points, while Marwan Sarhan had 20. Webster made seven of his nine shots from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. He also threw a team-high four assists. Devon Alexander added 15 points and Andy Avgi recorded 13. Adam Hastings led all players with eight rebounds.

The Wolves made 54 percent of their shots from the field, but were outshot as Simon Fraser made 55 percent of its shots. The Clan made nine of its 18 attempts from behind-the-arc, while WOU was 3-of-11. Western Oregon was 22-for-31 from the free throw line. SFU shot only nine free throws, making eight.

The visiting Wolves led for the first 16 minutes, including their largest lead of the game. WOU jumped out to a 19-4 advantage after a Webster lay-in. Western Oregon had a 29-19 lead with 8:57 left in the first half, but the Clan went on a 20-7 run over a six-minute span to take its first lead. The Wolves had a 46-43 lead at halftime after shooting nearly 68 percent from the field in the opening half.

The teams exchanged the lead over the first 10 minutes of the second half. WOU didn't trail in the final 11 minutes, leading by as many as six points several times. SFU tied the score at 77 with 2:31 remaining in regulation. Western Oregon scored 10 of the game's final 16 points to pull away. The Wolves made 8-of-10 from the free throw line during that final stretch.

The Clan's Taylor Dunn led all scorers with 25 points. He was 10-of-16 from the field. Justin Cole added 20 points, making four of his seven three-pointers. Darius Page scored 10 points and had seven rebounds. Matt Staudacher dished out a game-high seven assists.

Western Oregon returns to Monmouth for its next game on Dec. 14. The Wolves welcome Capilano University (B.C.) (4-4) in the first meeting between the programs ever. Tipoff next Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
