Women's Hoops falls at Alaska Fairbanks, 55-40

Wolves unable to rally from early deficit as Nanooks claim a 15-point victory.

Box Score FAIRBANKS, Alaska  – The Western Oregon women's basketball team was unable to get a rhythm going on the offensive end of the floor as the Wolves fell to Alaska Fairbanks, 55-40, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Thursday night. With the loss, WOU fell to 8-17 on the season, 3-12 in league play, while the Nanooks improved to 4-20 overall, 2-14 in conference action.

Mariah Durian came off the bench to lead the Wolves with 13 points; however, the Nanooks defense held WOU to 16-of-61 from the field. Dana Goularte added 12 points for the Wolves in the loss.

The Nanooks grabbed a 24-14 halftime lead as WOU was unable to get closer than five the rest of the way.

The Wolves did a solid job on the defensive end of the floor, holding UAF to just 20-of-62 from the field as the Nanooks went 6-of-18 from behind the arc. WOU also managed to force 19 turnovers; however, the Wolves were only able to convert those into 10 points.

Samantha Thorton led the Nanooks with 17 points as UAF earned a season split in the series.

WOU will look to rebound from the loss when the Wolves travel to Alaska Anchorage to face the Seawolves on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 6:15 p.m.
