Women's Hoops downed by No. 11 Simon Fraser, 62-45

Wolves hang tough with one of the best teams in the nation as Goularte led all players with 19 points.

Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore. – Dana Goularte led the Western Oregon women's basketball team with 19 points as the Wolves hung tough against No. 11 Simon Fraser throughout; however, it would not be enough as the Clan claimed a 62-45, victory over WOU in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Thursday night.

The sophomore forward led the Wolves against the nationally-ranked Clan as WOU forced 10 turnovers and held SFU to 40.0 percent from the floor in the first half. The effort saw the Wolves trailing by only three at the half at 25-22.

SFU managed to clamp down on the Wolves offense at the start of the second half; however, as the Clan opened the final twenty minutes with a 12-4 run to claim a 40-26 lead with a little over 11 minutes remaining. WOU would be unable to get the lead back down to single digits as the Wolves dropped a 17-point decision to the second-ranked team in the NCAA West Region.

Goularte went 8-of-15 from the field to lead all scorers while senior guard Lorrie Clifford scored nine for the Wolves. WOU shot just 18-of-54 from the field (33.3 percent) as the Wolves finished 4-of-11 from behind the three-point line.

Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe posted a double-double to lead the Clan as she finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kristina Collings added 14 points for Simon Fraser as the Clan finished the night 23-of-49 from the field (46.9 percent).

The Wolves put forth a strong defensive effort against the Clan as WOU forced 21 turnovers as Clifford led all players with four steals.

WOU will return to action on Saturday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. when the Wolves close out the season when they host No. 8 Western Washington. The contest will mark the final game for senior guard Lorrie Clifford as she closes out her career with the Wolves.
