MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves resume conference play when they host Central Washington on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 5:15 p.m., before hosting Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2:00 p.m.
WOU enters the week looking to rebound from its losses last week on the road to Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific as the Wolves enter the week with a mark of 7-14 overall and 2-9 in league play.
Freshman guard/forward
Mariah Durian continues to lead the Wolves in scoring with 12.4 points per game while continuing to lead the nation and league in free throw shooting at 94.6 percent (53-of-56). Senior guard
Lorrie Clifford also averages double figures (11.3 ppg) and is tied with junior forward
Melissa Fowler for the lead in assists, averaging 2.7 per game. The Wolves average 61.3 points per contest as a team.
Sophomore forward
Dana Goularte continues to be the leader on the defensive side of the ball, leading the Wolves in rebounds (6.3 rpg), steals (46), and blocked shots (25).
Central Washington enters the game with an overall record of 8-10 and a conference mark of 3-7. The Wildcats are currently on a three game losing streak after their home loss last week to Northwest Nazarene.
Junior guard Jessica VanDyke leads the Wildcats in scoring with 13.2 ppg, and is the only player on the team averaging double figures as the Wildcats average 66.3 ppg. On the defensive end, Schmitt leads the Wildcats in steals (30), and freshman forward/center Jasmine Parker leads the team in both rebounds (7.1 rpg) and blocked shots (46).
Northwest Nazarene enters the week with an overall record of 15-3 and a 7-3 record in conference play. The Crusaders have won 10 of their past 11 games, including a victory last week on the road over Central Washington.
Junior guard Megan Hingston leads the Crusaders in scoring (18.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.2 rpg) while the Crusaders high-octane offense averages nearly 73 points per game.
WOU fell to CWU and NNU earlier this season after splitting with the Wildcats and Crusaders a year ago.
Admission to each contest is $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and seniors while current WOU students are admitted for free with a valid identification card.
Following this week, the Wolves return to action next week with a road game at Saint Martin's on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7:00 p.m.
