Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore. –
Melissa Fowler led three Western Oregon women's basketball players in double figures with 15 points; however, it was not enough to overcome No. 8 Western Washington as the Wolves fell to the Vikings, 78-54, in the season finale on Saturday. With the loss, WOU concludes the season with a mark of 8-20 overall, 3-15 in league play, while the Vikings improved to 23-3 overall, 17-1 in conference action.
Fowler led the WOU attack with 15 points as the junior went 7-of-11 from the field.
Dana Goularte added 11 points while
Mariah Durian came off the bench to score 11 for the Wolves.
Senior
Lorrie Clifford finished the night with nine points and four assists as the four-year starter finished her career with the Wolves. The senior leaves WOU as one of its most successful players since the move to NCAA Division II as she concludes her career ranked in the top five in school history during NCAA play in games started (1st, 109), games played (1st, 113), points (4th, 851), three-point field goals made (4th, 90) and assists (2nd, 247).
Kayla Benrsen came off the bench to lead the Vikings with 25 points on 10-of-12 from the floor as WWU shot 28-of-55 (50.9 percent) from the floor for the game.
WWU held the Wolves to just 33.3 percent from the floor as the Vikings finished the game with a 37-31 edge on the boards and a 41-19 edge in points off the bench.
The Vikings never trailed in the game as WWU opened the contest with an 11-0 run.
