MONMOUTH, Ore. -- The Western Oregon University women's basketball team returns to the road as it travels to the University of Alaska-Anchorage Thursday and the University of Alaska Saturday in a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchups.
LAST TIME OUT
• Saint Martin's continued its strong to the season with a 77-46 victory over Western Oregon Jan. 4.
• SMU held the Wolves to just 16 made baskets and 29 percent shooting from the field.
• The Saint Martin's defense also forced WOU into 27 turnovers.
•
Dana Goularte recorded her 10th career double-double and fifth of the season, with 23 points and 15 rebounds.
WESTERN OREGON STORYLINES
•
Dana Goularte is in the top five in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in five major statistical categories.
• Goularte is currently third in blocks per game (1.73), second in field goal percentage (50.8), second in rebounds (9.8), and her 18.2 points per outing is third. She is first with five double-doubles as well.
• The Wolves are 1-7 this season when their opponents score at least 60 points in a game.
ABOUT ALASKA-ANCHORAGE
• Alaska-Anchorage has won five of its past six games.
• The Seawolves have won six of their seven home games this season.
• UAA's Ryan McCarthy was named the GNAC Coach of the Month last month following the team's great start.
• Alaska-Anchorage leads the conference in steals per game (16.2) and assists per game (17.4).
• UAA's 86.8 points per outing leads the GNAC and is sixth in NCAA Div. II. It is also third in the nation in steals and turnover margin.
• Kiki Robertson's 4.5 steals per contest leads the country.
SERIES HISTORY
• Alaska-Anchorage has a 25-11 lead in the all-time series.
• The Seawolves have won 19 straight games over Western Oregon.
• During the streak, UAA has won by an average of 17.8 points.
• Only two of the games during the stretch was decided by single digits.
• The last WOU win in the series was a 73-56 road victory in 2002.
ABOUT ALASKA
• After playing the top team in the conference in steals per game Thursday, WOU faces the second best takeaway team at Alaska Saturday.
• The Nanooks are averaging 11.3 steals per outing..
• UAF's Kelly Logue and Victoria Milton are fifth and seventh in the conference in steals per outing.
• Alaska also boasts the 15th best three-point field goal percentage defense in NCAA Div. II.
• The Nanooks' Jordan Wilson leads the GNAC with a 53.2 field goal percentage.
• Wilson is averaging 16.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, which are both seventh in the conference.
SERIES HISTORY
• Western Oregon has a 22-16 lead in the all-time series.
• The Wolves last victory in Fairbanks was in 2011.
• WOU has won eight of the last 10 games in the series.
• From 2008 to 2011, the Wolves won six straight in the series.
• The first meeting was a WOU 68-65 win in Monmouth in 1976.
