MONMOUTH, Ore. – In the finale of the 2014 Hampton Inn & Suites D2 Shootout, Western Oregon University's women's basketball team fell to the visiting Pioneers of Cal State East Bay, 66-61, Saturday inside the New PE Building.
The Wolves (0-2) were led by
Dana Goularte with 18 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field to go along with a 9-for-10 showing at the free throw line, while
Jordan Mottershaw chipped in with 11 points off WOU's bench.
Shyla Akins,
Sydney Azorr, and
Sami Osborne provided eight, six, and six points, respectively, while Goularte and Mottershaw both grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Azorr also handed out a team-best four assists for the Wolves with Goularte registering two blocked shots.
Cal State East Bay (1-1) got a game-high 29 points from Stephanie Lopez on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, while Remy Puou also scored in double figures with 17 points. Bianca Littleton led the Pioneers with a game-high eight rebounds, while Shannon Bland handed out a game-high six assists for CSUEB.
In the opening half, Cal State East Bay combined to shoot 12-for-28 (42.9%) from the field en route to earning a nine-point cushion (36-27) before the Pioneers held on for the five-point win (66-61).
Western Oregon will return to action on Tuesday, November 18, against current NAIA and future GNAC member Concordia University (Ore.) beginning at 7 p.m. inside Cavalier Gymnasium in Portland.
NOTE: In the unofficial championship game of the 2014 Hampton Inn & Suites D2 Shootout, Regis (Colo.) defeated Saint Martin's. 68-65, to take home the title.
