SEATTLE – The No. 20 Seattle Pacific University men's basketball team cruised to a 79-47 victory over Western Oregon University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Saturday.
The Falcons (18-4, 9-2 GNAC) extended their conference-high seven game win streak, and avenged a 74-70 loss earlier this season at WOU. SPU dominated the boards, outrebounding Western Oregon, 47-15. Seattle Pacific finished 56.9 percent from the field, while holding the Wolves to 31.4 percent. Eleven different Falcons scored in win.
Riley Stockton led three SPU players in double-digit scoring with 15 points. He made 6-of-9 from the field. Patrick Simon and Mitch Penner added 13 and 10 points. Brendan Carroll pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. David Downs threw seven assists. Stockton and Cory Hutsen both made three steals.
Seattle Pacific led for the entirety of the game, with the largest margin at 34 points. Not only did the Falcons control the glass, they had a 38-14 advantage in the paint. SPU made 60 percent of its shots in the first half. It finished the game 8-of-15 from three-point range and 13-of-18 from the free throw line.
After shooting 50 percent in the first half, trailing by 13 points at halftime, the Wolves were held to 5-of-29 from the field in the second half. WOU was 4-for-15 from behind-the-arc and 11-of-15 from the free throw line.
Jordan Wiley and
Rodney Webster both scored 10 points to lead Western Oregon (11-10, 4-7).
Adam Hastings had four rebounds and
Devon Alexander made three steals.
