Wildcats Use Big First Half in Win

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University women's basketball team held Western Oregon University to 14 first half points en route to a 74-58 victory.

The Wildcats (7-18, 2-15 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) avenged an overtime loss early in the conference schedule in Monmouth. CWU led for the entirety of Thursday's contest. Central Washington had its largest lead of the game at 57-30 with 11:21 remaining in regulation.

Four Wildcats finished in double digits led by Amber Moser's 18 points. She was a perfect, 8-for-8, from the field. Jasmine Parker and Courtney Johnson both scored 12. Parker and Moser combined for 14-for-16 shooting from the field. Daisy Burke chipped in 11 points. Johnson grabbed eight rebounds. Ally Schmitt dished out 10 assists. Parker had four blocks.

Central Washington made 49 percent of its shots from the field, and held WOU to 34 percent shooting. The Wildcats made 7-of-19 from three-point range, while Western Oregon shot 1-of-12. CWU was also 17-of-23 from the free throw line and the Wolves were 15-for-26.

Central Washington outrebounded WOU, 44-32. The Wildcats cruised to the win despite committing 26 turnovers. CWU did throw 18 assists. Western Oregon had 17 turnovers and nine assists.

Kelsey Henry led all scorers with 22 points. She made eight of her 15 shots. Dana Goularte added 18 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. The junior also had a game-high five steals and made three blocks. Jordan Mottershaw had three assists.

The Wolves (6-19, 3-14 GNAC) close their season at Northwest Nazarene Saturday at 5:15 p.m. The Crusaders (14-11, 7-10) won the first meeting in Monmouth, 86-69. Live video and stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
