BOX SCORE

OGDEN, Utah – Redshirt junior forward Kelsey Henry led the Wolves Thursday as the Western Oregon women's basketball team opened its exhibition schedule falling to Weber State on Thursday evening, 71-42.

"I thought we started out pretty strong," WOU head coach Holli Howard-Carpenter said. "We shot the ball well, but just didn't get enough opportunities because of turnovers."

Thirty-one giveaways led to 41 Wildcat points on the night and 25 extra field goal opportunities.

Henry finished with 15 points (6-7 FG, 2-2 3FG) and four rebounds in front of family in friends who made the trip from her hometown of Morgan, Utah. Senior center Emily Howey, another native of Utah, was one of three players with six points.

"Kelsey had a great night and Emily gave us great minutes off the bench," Howard-Carpenter added.

Junior guard Jordan Mottershaw and freshman guard Kaylie Boschma also had six points each for the Wolves.

Henry hit an early 3-point shot to spark an evenly played opening four minutes of the first quarter. Weber State used a 9-0 run to open up a 17-7 lead. A late triple put the Wolves down 22-9 after 10 minutes.

The Wildcats did not break the 20-point mark over the final three quarters due to cohesive WOU defending.

"Our zone look great and we worked well together for the most part," Howard-Carpenter said.

WOU entered halftime down 37-22, but an 8-0 Wildcat run over the opening two minutes built a 23-point cushion that the hosts would not relinquish. Weber State was led by a 10-for-10 shooting night from Regina Okoye, who finished with 20 points.

Both teams shot 48 percent from the field for the game, but Weber State had the field goal attempted and free throw percentage advantage (10-11, 91 percent). The Wolves hit 8-of-15 charity shots and matched the Wildcats with 26 rebounds.

Western Oregon visits Idaho State for another exhibition game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Reed Gym.
