MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's soccer team suffered its second Great Northwest Athletic Conference defeat of the season with a 3-1 loss to visiting Central Washington Sunday afternoon at WOU Soccer Field.

The Wolves (4-8-0, 1-6-0 GNAC) were outshot by the Wildcats, 23-to-6. CWU (9-2-1, 4-1-1 GNAC) held a 7-3 corner kick edge.

Keilin Farrand found the back of the net in the 18
th minute for Central Washington after Meghan Ward set up Bailey Martoncik for a shot. Off the rebound, Farrand found space to the near post, marking her third goal of the season. Nineteen minutes later, Farrand netted a tap-in goal in front of the net set up by a quick dribble off the right side by Molly Mortensen.

Western Oregon had two shots in the first half, but it was the latter effort with 55 seconds left that lit the scoreboard.
Dacia Alexander fed a ball to
Allison Sprecher, who went under the crossbar from 15 yards out to cut CWU's lead at halftime to 2-1.

The Wolves ramped up the aggression early in the second half, earning a pair of corners and shot attempts from
Meli Cortez and
Taylor Higa. Nonetheless, Central Washington added a goal in the 55
th minute when Mackenzie Nolte forced a turnover and dribbled nearly 50 yards before firing a shot off of
Caitlin Kastelic that rolled into the goal.

Higa had two other looks – one saved by Emily Holt in the 63
rd minute and a free kick that sailed high with 12 seconds left in the match.

Kastelic finished the match with 10 saves for Western Oregon.

The Wolves will look to bounce back on Thursday, Oct. 13, when they host Western Washington for a 3 p.m. GNAC match.
