MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Western Oregon baseball fell, 3-1, to Lewis-Clark State in a non-conference match on Wednesday.
The "home game" took place at Roy Helser Field on Linfield's campus. The Wolves are 9-11 overall, while the Warriors are 21-2 in the season.
Lewis-Clark State earned the first run in the first inning as the Warriors' first batter, junior Jacob Zanon, singled and scored off of senior Cabe Reiten's single. Zanon scored Lewis-Clark State's second run in the third inning after hitting a single once again.
In the ninth inning, the Warriors increased their lead with a run off of a wild pitch. The Wolves got on the board in the bottom of the inning as redshirt senior
Marcus Madden scored off of redshirt junior
Joey Crunkilton's double, but Lewis-Clark State was able to hold off Western Oregon for the win.
Western Oregon continuously had a hit in nearly every inning, leaving at least one runner on base, yet they were unable to convert.

Kyle Vanderkin led the Wolves with two hits each, while Madden, redshirt junior
Erik Long, and redshirt freshman
Justin Wakem each added a hit.
The Warriors put in five total pitchers for the day, combining a total of nine strikeouts. For the Wolves, junior
Trey Smith took the loss after pitching seven innings, allowing seven hits, yet striking out three batters. Freshman
Jordan Schiefer and senior
Alex Emerson also saw time on the mound.
The Wolves will continue Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26 at Montana State Billings. Western Oregon is scheduled to play a doubleheader each day at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. (M.T.).
