MONMOUTH, Ore. – Junior
Mercedes Green hit a pair of home runs including a walk-off in extra innings while three pitchers combined on a no-hitter in the nightcap as the Western Oregon University softball team swept visiting Northwest Chrisitian University, 3-2 (9 inn.) and 6-0, on Tuesday at the WOU Softball Field.

Stephanie Morgan and
Haley Fabian combined to keep the Beacons without a hit while combining for 11 strikeouts. The trio tossed the first no-hitter since Allison Sempsis did the feat against Northwest Nazarene in 2002 in a six-inning game.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Wolves improved to 26-21 for the year. NCU fell to 14-32 overall.

GAME ONE: WOU 3, Northwest Christian 2 (9 innings)Green went 2-for-3 with a game-tying home run in the sixth inning and the game-winner in the ninth as the Wolves came back to win 3-2.

Trailing by a pair of runs, Green came to the plate with a runner on and the knowledge that she just missed out on hitting the ball out of the park in her first at-bat. After
Brandy Knowles extended the sixth inning with a single, Green worked the count full against Katie Walker. On the payoff pitch, Green lifted a ball that cleared the left field fence with the equalizer.

The score remained 2-2 until the bottom of the ninth. Green led off the frame and worked the count in her favor, three balls and one strike. With one swing she lifted a ball to left field that bounced off the top of the wall and caromed to the ground outside the park to end the game.

Lizzet Dominguez threw five scoreless innings in relief to earn the win (4-6). She allowed five hits and struck out two after
Alyson Boytz threw the first three scoreless innings. Morgan surrendered a two-run home run in her inning.

GAME TWO: WOU 6, Northwest Christian 0One-hundred and seven pitches between three pitchers posted the first WOU no-hitter in 14 years as the Wolves completed the Tuesday sweep with a 6-0 win.

Cadwallader was powerful in her three innings, facing just one batter over the minimum, with six strikeouts.

Morgan walked one and had a runner reach second base, but she struck out one and got her final batter to pop out to shallow left field for a scoreless frame.

WOU took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI groundout from Green and a two-run home run from
Zoe Clark. The advantage allowed Morgan to earn the win in the circle for WOU.

Fabian was nearly untouchable over the final three innings. She wrapped up her nine outs with four strikeouts, three fly balls and two ground outs.

The Wolves added insurance to the lead with a single run in the fifth after a sacrifice fly from
Ashlee Lynch plated
Destiny Kuehl. Kuehl drove in the final two runs in the sixth inning with a single to center field that cashed in Clark and Green.

A 10-0 advantage in the hit column came with a pair of extra-base hits and one bunt single.
Next: Western Oregon closes out its 2016 home schedule Wednesday, taking on I-5 rival Concordia in games that will playoff implications on the line. First pitch is schedule for 2 p.m. with Senior Day festivities prior to the first game with the Cavaliers.
