Wolves experience offensive tides against CSUSB, Chamiande

TURLOCK, Calif. – Looking to bounce back from two defeats at the 2016 Tournament of Champions sponsored by the City of Turlock, Western Oregon played in two very different games Sunday. The Wolves were held to one hit in a 6-0 loss to Cal State University San Bernardino before shifting into another offensive gear to rout Chaminade University 12-3 in the final game of the tournament.

The Wolves closed out the weekend with a 3-3 tournament record and 16-17 overall on the season.

Western Oregon could not produce more than a few walks and a leadoff single from Ryanne Huffman against Coyotes pitcher Cassandra Williams, who struck out 15 batters.

Lizzet Dominguez took the loss for WOU surrendering six runs on six hits.

Any thought of an offensive slump continuing into the afternoon contest with the Silverswords were quelled after the Wolves scored four times in the third inning sparking a rally of seven unanswered runs. Brandy Knowles led off the third with a single and Alex Frazier took the first pitch she saw over the fence in left field for a 2-1 lead. Courtney Lau Hee added a RBI single and Huffman later scored on a passed ball.

The WOU lead increased to 6-1 in the fourth following a two-run double from Ashlee Lynch. A Chaminade fielding error in the fifth extended the inning and allowed an unearned eun to cross home. Insurance came in the top of the seventh with three tallied including a RBI double by Jenna Kelly, a Frazier sacrifice fly and RBI single by Jennings.

Sammi Cadwallader fanned five in five innings to earn her fourth win. Stephanie Morgan did not allow a hit over the final two innings.

Western Oregon returns to conference play on Saturday, April 9 against Western Washington at 12 noon at the WOU Softball Field.
