Win Streak Hits Six with DH Sweep of Lady Yotes

Wolves smack 26 hits in Saturday twinbill

CALDWELL, Idaho – After coming back from one run down in a close 5-4 win in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader at the College of Idaho, the Western Oregon softball team provided more than enough offense to support a Sammi Cadwallader shutout to defeat the Lady Yotes 9-0 in five innings in the nightcap.

In game one, the Wolves (8-5) needed a two-out, two-run double from Chandler Bishop to play Destiny Kuehl with the tying run and Kennedy Coy with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to avoid a loss in the series opener. In the circle, Haley Fabian struck out four in a complete-game triumph, giving up four runs and five hits.

After a scoreless first inning, the Wolves got on the board in the second, as Bishop reached on an error and came home on an opposite-field single from Ku'ulei Siolo. In the third, WOU added two more runs for a 3-0 lead. Kuehl drew a lead-off walk and advanced to third on an Ashley Lynch double. Bishop lifted a sacrifice fly to right plating Kuehl and Zoe Clark singled to center scoring Lynch.

The College of Idaho (1-4) loaded the bases in the bottom of the third on a hit batter and two singles before a grand slam from Martha Tooley put the Lady Yotes in front, 4-3.

WOU had one hit and was retired in order twice before the comeback in the seventh inning. Kuehl and Kelsie Gardner each had three hits as the Wolves outhit the College of Idaho 12 to five in game one.

Western Oregon never trailed in game two, earning a five-inning win after pounding out 14 hits. Five players had multiple-hit games, as Gardner, Doyle, Kuehl, Lynch and Emma Alfonso paced the WOU offense. Kuehl drove in three, while Doyle notched a pair.

Cadwallader won her fourth game of the season allowing five hits while fanning one in her second consecutive five-inning shutout.

WOu jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Lynch RBI sacrifice fly in the first inning after an error loaded the bases. A pair of doubles from Clark and Alfonso later allowed Gardner to knock in the first of two runs in the second inning on a ground ball. Cheyenne Rimer made it a 3-0 lead with a sac fly to left field, plating Alfonso.

Four came across in the WOU fourth. The Wolves put two in scoring position with two singles and a sacrifice bunt. Doyle then singled home the first run for a 4-0 lead. Kuehl followed with a two-run double while Bishop followed two batters later with a RBI double to push the lead to 7-0.

In the fifth, the Wolves tacked on two more. With one out, Gardner scored on a Doyle single and Rimer later came home on an infield single by Kuehl. The damage could have been more, but with the bases loaded, Doyle's sharp liner to first base was turned into a double play.

Cadwallader stranded two runners on base in the fifth to close the game.

The Wolves wrap up a four-game series with the Lady Yotes with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. (MT) on Sunday. Live stats will be available at WOUWolves.com.
