MONMOUTH, Ore.—Erupting for a 10-0 run over a two-minute span midway through the first half, No. 14-ranked Western Oregon University soundly defeated Montana State University Billings, 92-68, in GNAC men's basketball action on Saturday night.
Shooting 63.8 percent from the floor on the night, Western Oregon (13-1, 5-1 GNAC) generated an 18-point lead at the half and expanded the advantage to as many as 32 points following the break to post the team's sixth straight win.
Six players reached double figures in scoring for WOU, while all 12 players that dressed for the team scored at least two points on the night.
Demetrius Trammell led the Wolves with 14 points and was followed by 12 from
Riley Hawken and 11 each from
Malik Morgan and
Janvier Alaby.
Tanner Omlid and
JJ Chirnside added 10 points each while Hawken grabbed nine boards to finish one carom away from a 'double-double'. Chirnside, meanwhile, tied a career high with five assists, a mark he previously set against Fresno Pacific earlier in the season.
Freshman guard Kobe Terashima led all scorers with 17 points off the bench for the Yellowjackets. With the loss, MSUB fell to 10-7 overall and 2-4 in GNAC play.
Western Oregon will play its next two contests on the road with games at Saint Martin's on Jan 11 and at Seattle Pacific on Jan. 13. The team will return home to host Central Washington on Jan. 18.
