Wolves open Dixie State Tourney with 68-59 win

ST. GEORGE Utah,—The guard tandem of Brandell Evans and Darius Lubom combined for 27 points to lead Western Oregon to a 68-59 win over Westminster College in the opening game of the Dixie State Classic on Friday.
 
Leading to a 14-0 advantage in fast-break points, Western Oregon (3-0) ended the night with a 10-0 edge in steals to pull away in the second half against Westminster (1-2).
 
Evans scored 14 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to help the Wolves secure as much as a 14-point gap in the waning minutes of the contest. Evans' 17 points were the most he has scored since joining Western Oregon for the 2017-18 season.

Lubom added 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting while Dalven Brushier scored 11 points with a boost from a 9-of-12 performance from the free throw line. Darius has been the only player to score at least 10 points in each of the first three games of the season for the Wolves. 

Westminster's Jai Jai Ely led all scorers with 18 points after converting 11-of-12 from the stripe. 
 
The Wolves' undefeated start through three games is the second straight year they have begun the season 3-0.
 
The Wolves will return to action at 6:30 p.m. (PST) on Saturday to face tournament host Dixie State University.
