WOU tops Toros 1-0 to finish Cali road trip

CARSON, Calif.—Splitting their California road trip, the Western Oregon University soccer team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 1-0, while playing at Field #3 of the StubHub Field #3 on Saturday.

Firing at the 77:00 mark after a feed from teammate Kennedy Clay, Western Oregon (1-1) junior Isabelle Creighton scored the team's first goal of the season to boost the Wolves to the win.

Working the ball inside the 18-yard box, Clay played the ball back to Creighton who used a one-timer from just inside of the box for the game's lone goal.

Ending the day with a 13 to 7 advantage in shots the Wolves nearly doubled up the CSUDH in total attempts. WOU's Alyssa Tomasini attempted a career high five attempts with three on target, forcing CSUDH goalkeeper Soto into three of her seven saves on the day.

The result was the first positive finish in three total matchups against CSUDH as the Toros posted 5-0 wins against the Wolves during the 2001 and 2005 seasons.

Alex Qualls, a junior transfer from Boise State, stopped five shots of her own to pick up her first win and first shutout in a WOU uniform.

The Wolves will return to Oregon and play their next two matches at home, beginning with a Thursday, Sept. 6 affair against Stanislaus State. Opening kick against the Warriors is set for 3 p.m. at the WOU Soccer Field. Two days later, the Wolves will host the Academy of Art in an 11:30 a.m. match in Monmouth.
