MONMOUTH, Ore.—Placing two early goals on the board, No. 17-ranked Western Washington earned its fourth straight win with a 3-0 victory at Western Oregon University on Saturday.
Western Washington (8-2-0, 3-1-0 GNAC) opened its account in the 10th minute of play with a strike by Grace Eversaul and quickly extended its advantage as Gabriela Pelogi found the back of the net in the 12th minute.
Western Oregon (4-4-2, 2-2-1 GNAC) was outshot 14 to 2 in the first half, but despite being down a pair of goals, created several chances at breaking through for a score after the break.
The Wolves more than doubled its shot total in the second 45 minutes with five attempts in the second half. Four of those attempts occurred in a 10-minute span beginning at the 65:36 mark.
Alyssa Tomasini's and
Selene Konyn both had attempts blocked by the WWU defense while
Kaili Brundage and
Chelsea Hartnett had chances sail high.
Alex Qualls took the loss in goal for the Wolves, but registered a season-high tying nine saves in the contest. WWU starting keeper Natalie Dierickx earned the win without a save necessary.
WWU's third score came in the 55th minute with Zoe Milburn's second of the season.
The loss broke a three-match unbeaten streak for Western Oregon.
The Wolves will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 2 with a home match against No. 10-ranked Concordia University. Opening kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at the WOU Soccer Field.
