CLERMONT, Fla.—Playing for the first time since Feb. 3, Western Oregon split a pair of contests in the opening day of action at the PFX Tournament on Friday.
Western Oregon (4-1) opened the day with an 8-2 win over Kentucky Wesleyan and followed up with a 3-0 setback against Missouri St. Louis.
The Wolves are scheduled to resume play on Saturday morning against Findley (Ohio) and Minnesota State Mankato. Opening pitch in the opener is set for 9 a.m. (EST).
Game 1: Western Oregon def. Kentucky Wesleyan, 8-2
Providing all the offense the Wolves would need,
Chandler Bishop lifted a 3-run blast in the first inning to help Western Oregon to an 8-2 win in the opening game at the PFX Athletics Tournament on Friday morning.
Tyler Creach started the attack with a double to left while
Mariah Deleon cracked a 2-out single to place runners on the corner for Bishop, who sent the ball over the center-field fence for the early 3-0 lead.
The Wolves tacked on single runs in the 3rd and 5th innings before Deleon returned with a 3-run dinger of her own in the 7th for the final spread.
Haley Fabian went 5.1 innings in the circle to improve to 2-0 on the season. Fabian allowed one run on four hits before turning to reliever
Reilly Tidwell. Tidwell struck out two to close out the victory.
Game 2: Missouri-St. Louis def. Western Oregon, 3-0
Outhitting the Wolves 9-to-4, Missouri St. Louis handed WOU its first loss of the season with a 3-0 victory on Friday.
The Tritons received a single run in the 3rd and two in the 4th with Madi Sundling delivering a solo homer for UMSL.
WOU's four hits in the game—all singles—came from four different player. The Tritons kept WOU from reaching second base until the 7th inning when
Ayanna Arceneaux led off the frame with a single through middle and advanced a base on a
Mariah Deleon swing that resulted in a groundout to right field.
Carly Kingerly snared the win for UMSL with a complete game gem that featured nine strikeouts and zero walks.
