Arceneaux, Rimer lead Wolves to SMU sweep

HILLSBORO, Ore.—Combining for nine RBI on the day, the Western Oregon duo of Ayanna Arceneaux and Cheyanne Rimer guided the Wolves to a sweep, 11-7 and 6-5, over Saint Martin's on Monday.

Arceneaux combined to go 6-for-7 at the plate for the Wolves with four RBI and four runs scored while Rimer provided the go-ahead runs with a 3-run blast in the 6th inning of the nightcap to help the team come back from a 5-2 deficit.

Western Oregon will return to action on Thursday, March 28 in a make-up doubleheader versus Montana State Billings. The twin bill will take place in Modesto, California the day before the Wolves begin a five-game stretch at the Tournament of Champions.

Game 1: Western Oregon def. Saint Martin's, 11-7
Sending 11 batters to the plate in the 2nd inning, Western Oregon erupted for seven early runs en route to defeating the Saints, 11-7, in the opener on Monday.

The Wolves tallied six hits in the frame with Kennedy Coy, Ayanna Arceneaux, Tyler Creach, Cheyanne Rimer and Chandler Bishop all provided RBI swings.

The Saints managed to cut the deficit to 9-6 with a 3-run 6th inning only for the Wolves to add to its tally via a 2-run homer by Arceneaux in the 7th.

Haley Fabian earned the win after tossing the first 6 innings. Improving to 6-2 on the season, Fabian struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Reilly Tidwell allowed one run in the 7th while closing out the contest.

Game 2: Western Oregon def. Saint Martin's, 6-5
Down 5-2 with two outs in the top of the 6th, Cheyanne Rimer lifted a ball over the center-field fence to boost the Wolves to a 6-5 win and a Monday sweep over Saint Martin's.

Kennedy Coy started the rally with a one-out single and was immediately moved into scoring position on an Ayanna Arceneaux single to right. Coy scored on a groundout off the bat of Tyler Creach to make it a 5-3 contest.

After fouling off a would-be third strike, Ryanne Whitaker took two straight off-target pitches for a walk and plant the tying run on base for the Wolves. Not satisfied with simply tying the contest, Rimer launched her team-leading fourth home run of the season to give the Wolves its first lead since a 1-0 score in the 3rd inning.

Shaking off the early trouble, freshman Maddie Mayer kept the Saints off the board for the final two innings to collect the win. Mayer improved to 4-2 on the season with one strike out and three walks in the complete-game performance.

Led by a 3-for-3 line from Arceneaux that included three runs scored, Western Oregon outhit the Saints, 10 to 9.
