Wolves top Toros in Tournament finale

TURLOCK, Calif.—With two big offensive innings, the Western Oregon softball team closed out the Tournament of Champions on a winning note with a 10-4 victory over CSU Dominguez hills on Sunday morning.

Down 2-0 after the 1st inning, Western Oregon (18-9) scored five runs in the 2nd for the initial lead and blew the game open with four more scores in the 4th.

With the win, the Wolves finished with a 3-2 record at the Tournament of Champions.

WOU outhit the Toros 12 to 8 with five of the team's hits going for extra bases. Ryanne Whitaker provided the go-ahead runs in the 2nd inning with a 2-run triple while Ayanna Arceneaux posted an RBI triple of her own in the 4th frame.

Kennedy Coy joined Areceneaux to go a combined 5 for 9 at the plate with three RBI and five runs scored as the team's No. 8-9 hitters. Sydney Bowers went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run scored and two RBI. 

Tossing a complete game, Chandler Bishop collected the win for the Wolves. Bishop scattered eight hits across the seven innings with only two of the four runs earned against the junior. 

Western Oregon will return to GNAC play with a four-game home series against Northwest Nazarene on April 5-6. First pitch against the Nighthawks is set for 2 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
