Myers bucket in final seconds give WOU a 69-67 win at Central Washington in GNAC opener

ELLENSBURG, Washington --- Usually the one setting up the baskets, Western Oregon's Qiant Myers made a pair of key baskets down the stretch - including a game-winner in the final seconds - to give the Wolves a 69-67 victory over Central Washington on Thursday in their GNAC opener at Ellensburg High School.

WOU (4-2 overall, 1-0 GNAC) trailed the Wildcats (1-6, 0-1) 64-62 with less than two minutes remaining when Myers scored with 1:21 remaining to tie the game 64-64.

The Wolves took the lead on their next possession as a Cameron Cranston jumper with 42 seconds remaining made it 66-64. Cranston then split a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to make it 67-64 before a 3-pointer by CWU's Camron McNeil tied the game with eight seconds remaining at 67.

After a timeout, Myers gave the Wolves the lead for good on a basket in the final seconds to make the final 69-67.

Myers, who entered the game leading the GNAC in assists per game at 6.0 while averaging 5.4 points, led the Wolves with 16 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Yosani Clay had 15 points, four steals, three rebounds, two blocks and two assists, Cameron Cranston had 14 points, five rebounds and two steals while John Morrill-Keeler had 10 points and six rebounds.

WOU shot 49.1 percent from the field, but were just 4-for-18 from behind the arc (22.2 percent) - meaning they were 24-for-39 (61.5 percent) from inside the arc.

The Wolves return to action Saturday at Northwest Nazarene.
