MONMOUTH, Oregon --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team overcame a rough second quarter and a halftime deficit by outscoring Willamette 36-16 in the second to beat the Bearcats 67-51 Saturday at the New PE Building in the Wolves' home opener.
WOU (6-2) led 25-17 after the first quarter before being outscored 18-6 by Willamette (4-5) in the second quarter to fall behind 35-31.
But the Wolves late in the third quarter with the score tied at 40 went on a 13-0 run ignited by a
Kylee Arzner bucket with 39 second left in the third and capped by an
Ally Harman 3-pointer with 7:31 left in the fourth.
The Bearcats wouldn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the contest.
Princy Paaluhi-Caulk led the way for the Wolves, going for 20 points on 9-for-13 shooting, grabbing six rebounds and collecting five steals.
Cali McClave added 13 points and four rebounds while
Kiylynn Dawkins had 12 points and six boards.
WOU returns to action Friday at CSU Dominguez Hills.
