LAKEWOOD, Colorado --- The Western Oregon women's soccer team keeps on rolling as freshman
Leeci Snyder's first collegiate goal late in the contest and another strong defensive effort led the Wolves past Colorado Christian 1-0 Thursday at Trailblazer Stadium.
The victory moves Western Oregon to 3-0 for the first time in program history having started 2-0 last in 2016. The Wolves did start the season undefeated through four games at 2-0-2 in 2013.
The Wolves and Cougars (1-2) played a scoreless first half with CCU outshooting WOU 5-3 (3-1 in shots on goal), but WOU started finding its rhythm in the second half and finally broke through with 13 minutes left in the contest.
Lilly Nowatzke took a ball down near the corner on the right side and drew two defenders before finding an open Snyder. The freshman took a touch then with her left foot from 15 yards out found the bottom-left corner of the goal to put the Wolves up 1-0.
It's all WOU needed as it posted its second shutout in three games this season and has allowed just one goal in the run of play this season (another scored on a penalty kick). Keeper
Olivia Holdenried - the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week - picked up four saves in the win - giving her 24 in three games.
Lulu Sadler led WOU with three shots while Nowatzke - who got the assist on the Snyder goal - had two shots.Â
The Wolves return to action Sunday as they travel to play an exhibition at Willamette.
