MONMOUTH, Oregon --- The Western Oregon baseball team bounced back in a big way Sunday afternoon after dropping the doubleheader finale against Eastern Oregon on Saturday, beating the Mounties 12-4 and 9-0 at WOU Baseball Field.
In the second game, it was the Wolves' (4-4 overall)
Chris Hardin that dominated on the mound - tossing a seven-inning complete game with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.
At the plate, Levin Cummings finished a home short of the cycle - going 3-for-4 with a triple, double, three runs an RBI to go along with a stolen base.
Curran Mitzel finished 2-for-3 with a triple, run and two RBI,
Justyn Herzog went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI,
Derek Maiben went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base,
Cedric Gatter was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI and a run and
AJ Cortese went 1-for-3 with a triple, RBI and three runs.
In the first game, WOU fell behind 2-0 in the first before answering with three of its own in the bottom of the first (aided by three EOU errors in the inning) as the Wolves cruised from there.
Cortese went 3-fro-4 with a double, three RBI and a run,
Derek Maiben went 3-for-5 with three runs, an RBI and two stolen bases while
Ryan Witt went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Dylan Chalmers picked up the win on the mound, going six innings and giving up two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk.
Jacob Memmott (1.1 IP, 3 SO) and
Devin Bell (1.0 IP) pitched a final 2.1 scoreless and hitless innings in relief for WOU.
The Wolves return to action at Central Washington for a non-GNAC four-game series with doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
