LACEY, Wash. --- The Western Oregon baseball team split a doubleheader at Saint Martin's on Thursday, winning the first game 13-2 before having its 11-game win streak snapped in game two 3-2 at Saints Field.
In the first game, the Wolves (27-13 overall, 20-9 GNAC) - who have already clinched the regular season GNAC title - trailed 1-0 after one before scoring three in the second (highlighted by a
John Oleson home run) and five in the third (highlighted by a two-run Oleson single) to make it 8-1. Leading 8-2 going into the eighth, a five-run inning put the final at 13-2.
Oleson pace WOU at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and three runs.
Derek Maiben went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs, AJ Cortse went 3-for-5 with a run while
Levi Cummings,
Jacob Maiben,
Justyn Herzog,
Cedric Gatter and
Hibiki Ouchi had two hits apiece as the Wolves had 20 hits in the contest.
Dylan Chalmers moved to 6-0 on the season after going six innings and giving up a run on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
In game two, the Wolves took a 2-1 lead on the Saints (15-29, 11-19) thanks to a Cortese sacrifice fly and a
Connor Thomas RBI single in the second inning. The score remained that way until a two-run double by the Saints in the fifth inning gave them the lead for good.
Curran Mitzel was the lone Wolf with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a run.Â
The Wolves and Saints conclude their series with a doubleheader starting noon Saturday.
