BURNABY, B.C. --- The Western Oregon softball team's season came to a close Thursday as the Wolves dropped a pair of games at the GNAC Championships, falling to top-seed Northwest Nazarene 2-1 and to No. 3 Western Washington 6-3 at Beedie Field.
In the first game, the Wolves (22-29) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when an
Isabelle Lewis groundout scored
Sydney Conklin. The lead stayed that way until a homer by NNU in the sixth and a walk-off RBI single in the seventh gave the Nighthawks the win.
Baylie Kahele went 2-for-3 for the Wolves at the plate.
Chelsea Smith got the start, going 5.1 innings and giving up one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Maddie Mayer got the loss, going 1.1 innings and giving up a run on two hits.
In the second game, the Wolves ook a 3-2 lead in the fourth when
Katelyn McGough hit a three-run double to center field, but Western Washington scored four in the fifth to take the lead for good.
Bella Valdes,
Natalie Willoughby and
Logan Carlos had two hits apiece. Mayer got the loss, going four innigns and giving up five earned runs on six hits with three walks.
